Frequently Asked Questions
There are many reasons why people come to therapy. Sometimes it is to deal with symptoms related to an unexpected life event. Other times, it is to deal with long standing issues, such as anxiety or depression. A therapist can help provide insight, support and new techniques or ideas to help navigate the challenges in life. Therapy is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most of their life by taking responsibility, developing greater self awareness, and working toward change in their lives.
I conduct an intake during the first session. Sometimes, this evaluation takes another session to complete. First we review my practice and policy documents and discuss confidentiality and HIPPA related issues. Then, I ask questions about current symptoms and concerns, family dynamics, patterns in relationships, and anything else that may help me understand you as a complete person. The intake is an opportunity to learn if we are a “good match” and you are encouraged to ask me questions about my practice. If we agree to work together, we will agee on a treatment plan and discuss scheduling for future appointments.
